Offered varieties

aardappel.jpgWe tailor the large variety of potatoes that we pack to the tastes and wishes of the consumers.

We mainly buy our potatoes from Dutch trading houses. Because of our daily contacts with the potato trading business, our suppliers know exactly what kind of quality we require. All our potatoes come from GLOBALGAP-certified production farms. GLOBALGAP is a worldwide production standard developed and required by international supermarket organisations.

The potato is a natural product. Growing conditions determine the yield and quality. Consumers expect quality potatoes of similar cooking types all year long. Landjuweel is able to meet these expectations. How? The basic principle is that we always have sufficient supplies of quality potatoes for the desired cooking types available. Landjuweel is able to deliver cooking types on demand by carefully selecting varieties and growing areas, and by always being informed of the available quality during the growing season and storage period.

Depending on the quality of a batch when harvested, potatoes can be kept for nine months. Batches for Landjuweel are, while in storage, frequently evaluated on ‘how the quality of the batch is holding’. As soon as signs of quality loss are starting to show, the batches are moved to cold storage. Only batches that meet the quality standards of Landjuweel are processed. This careful process prevents too many changes in varieties in the assortment throughout the year.

The Dutch potato season starts early in June with the harvesting of early varieties such as Doré. Most Dutch potatoes are harvested in August and September. The potatoes are stored with the grower or in cold stores. In March, the import of potatoes from countries like Egypt and Morocco starts, because there they can be harvested twice a year due to the climate. Next, the import of new potatoes from Spain and other countries around the Mediterranean Sea starts, because there they can be harvested earlier than in Holland.
