Landjuweel sees to it that clients are provided with quality potatoes throughout the year. When there are no Dutch quality potatoes available, Landjuweel imports them from abroad. Potatoes grown in the Netherlands are collected by Landjuweel's own trucks. They arrive on bulk trucks or in crates. The potatoes are assessed immediately upon arrival at Landjuweel to see if they meet the high quality requirements. Approved lots are unloaded and processed.
During the process, foreign elements like soil and leaves are separated from the potatoes first; then they are rinsed. The rinsed potatoes are dried on the drying lane. The potatoes go from the rinsing lane to the sorting area, where they are sorted by size. We process an average of 35 tonnes (34 L/T) of potatoes per hour.
After processing the potatoes, they are transported to the bunkers via conveyer belts. At the end of the line, they are moved to the bunker conveyor belt, which goes down into the bunker. The potatoes are, so to speak, laid down in the bunker. The 26 bunkers have a total capacity of 540 tonnes (529 L/T). This guarantees sufficient supplies for the packing division.
Unloading belts that can be moved over the conveyer belts empty the bunkers. Five kinds or sizes of potatoes can be processed at the same time using the fully automated packing machines. The packed potatoes are put in containers or crates by robots or by hand. Loaded pallets and containers are placed on the loading
platform or directly onto the trailer. We transport the potatoes to the distribution centres of the supermarkets ourselves. The fleet, with its latest trucks and isolated trailers for frost-free transportation, is highly modern. The average turnaround time from arrival to reloading takes seven hours.The quality of the potatoes is mostly determined by how careful the product has been processed. The processing and packing lines at Landjuweel are thus arranged that the quality of the product is preserved and discoloration from ‘bumping’ is kept to a minimum.
